Alice Cappa handweaves natural fiber wearables in light-weight, breathable cottons, integrating a unique expression of color and texture into a traditional craft. A favorite technique is Leno-lace, an open weave used to define imagery as with the marine images of her "SeaShawls". Look for another technique, rainbow-dyed warp, creating a progression of gradient shades throughout the weave.
Alice also spins, dyes, and weaves fleece from her sheep, or makes natural fiber papers for journals or handbound books. These processes offer presentations for schools and camps, where often a lamb has visited with students. Special techniques, such as the triangle weaving, are taught in traveling workshops. Her work is offered for exhibit in juried shows throughout the southeast.
